NETWORK
As part of our efforts to create a national conversation about the future of social clubs, we are publishing results from a national survey to share more evidence about their current position and support requirements, and to attract more financial support and progressive policy from the government.
11th September 2025
Join us on 11th September 2025 at The Mildmay Club in London for Stronger Local Places: Rebuilding the Social Club Movement, a one-day conference dedicated to revitalising the legacy and relevance of social clubs across Britain.
3 December 2024 — Principality Stadium, Cardiff
The event aims to foster dialogue between business federations, foundations, local government, think tanks, and universities, all focused on promoting democracy in workplaces and communities.
We’re the anchor organisation for an international network of researchers, practitioners, and campaigners, building the field of democratic ownership of business into a connected movement for change in our economies, through small thematic & geographic groups, with common agendas for learning or change.
This capacity-building course, delivered in partnership with Co-op Culture, is designed to increase knowledge and capacity among policymakers, business advisors, and foundations around business models such as co-operatives and community business, including the support landscape and key support needs.
As part of the Business for Good West Yorkshire consortium, which is supported by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, we’re creating access to the region’s democratic businesses, so that local entrepreneurs and supportive institutions can find out more about their approaches to growth, internal democracy, routes to finance, and community engagement.
PARTNERSHIP
Preston City Council commissioned the design and delivery of an incubator supporting local minority-led charities to advocate for democratic business models across priority sectors in the city region, enabling the council’s Community Wealth Building programme to reach a broader audience.
Stretford Public Hall, Manchester
Every year we hold a national summit bringing together participants from across the democratic business sector for a one-day event to advance democracy in workplaces and communities. Involving business federations, foundations, local government, think tanks, and universities, our inaugural Summit in 2023 was held in Manchester, with this year’s Summit taking place in Cardiff in December.
As part of a consortium, in partnership with Islington Council's Inclusive Economies team, we developed the governance and business plan for a new borough-level development agency to offer specialist support for co-operatives.
